Suite Dreams (2023)

The thrill of starting a new journey often brings curiosity and sometimes anxiety along for the ride. Dream big and forge ahead, my dear adventurer, but be warned the path is fraught with twists and turns, for often the destination is not always what was anticipated. Regardless, the journey teaches us and even molds us into the character we are destined to become. Dare to dream - destiny awaits!

This album reaches back to classical compositional scores and themes from the past few years, brought to life with modern tools, techniques, and instruments.

1 - Destiny

This classical musical piece is the first in the Suite Dreams series, inspired by my own adventure and consisting of pieces written over the past 25 years - now re-recorded, mastered, and brought together in this metaphoric musical odyssey. Originally written in 2000, this piece represented my hopes and ambitions as I began the journey of college (at the University of North Texas) and setting out into the world on my own. I was hooked on creating original music since having the amazing opportunity to write a string chamber music piece for the award winning Klein High School orchestra and to perform it live at Rice University's Stude Hall in 1999 - aptly titled "In Remembrance: Finale '99". Music became a creative outlet amid my studies, and as a result, this and the other pieces included in Suite Dreams emerged.

2 - Dusk

As the sun sets on the past, the future lies ahead shadowed in uncertainty. The strong of heart press forward into the unknown, prepared to adapt and overcome until the light rises again. Dare to Dream - your adventure awaits!

3 - Starry Night

As the journey continues, the darkness of the unknown becomes saturated with millions of points of light - countless possible worlds swirl above and before you. Any one of these celestial objects could serve as your compass to the path ahead - choose wisely. Dare to dream - your adventure awaits!

This particular piece was originally composed in 2000 during a friendly composition competition with my college dorm mate, who had to come up with a short motif and then write a theme and variations piece for a music composition class at the University of North Texas.

4 - Enigma

Not all goes according to plan. Struggles and challenges emerge from the unexpected twists and turns along the path. However, the agile and perseverant traveler will prevail. The worst thing you can ever do is panic. Remember that even a dumpster fire can be used as a crucible to cast strong solid characters. Dare to dream - your adventure awaits!

Originally composed in 2000 (as "Requiem #1 - As a Princess Departs") this sorrowful soundscape emerged directly from the heart as a cathartic and meditative manifestation from the loss of a family member and the near loss of another.

8 - Dawn

The light of discovery, hope, and new beginnings is on the horizon. Having made it through the journey, the next of your days arises. Take one last look back and remember where you came from, then forge ahead into the new dawn of the future. Dare to dream - your adventure awaits!

Originally composed in 2002 as an exercise in writing an energetic full orchestra piece.

10 - When Dreams Come True

Although it may not be what you first envisioned, the future is here. The journey continues, with more mountains to climb and valleys to cross, but your pilgrimage from the past has prepared you for the present. Dare to continue dreaming - your next adventure awaits!

Originally composed in 2002, this piece manifested while musically meditating on a grand piano in a chapel on campus - the simple two chord broken pattern suddenly coming to life and dancing around the F#. In that moment, I knew I could take what I had learned and confidently journey forward towards career, family, and whatever else life had in store.
